Nebraska highway busy today as farmers help out wildfire-ravaged Kansas

Smoke first began drifting across the Lincoln area last week

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Nebraska Highway Patrol is warning drivers that Highway 183 will be extra busy heading into Kansas today.

Troopers say many farmers, ranchers, hay producers and truck drivers are hauling loads of hay to help out areas that have been ravaged by recent wildfires.

Just this week the Kansas Forest Service announced around 163,000 acres were torched by last week’s flames, which also killed two men.

The areas impacted include Russell County, which authorities say caused heavy smoke that drifted into the Lincoln area this past Wednesday.

Many people across our city reported haze and complained about their eyes being agitated.
