LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN)- The Nebraska Hispanic Festival was today, coming just in time for National Hispanic Heritage Month.
“This is actually one of the first events that has been done like this here,” says Steve Solorio, DJ, and co-organizer. “The Hispanic community is growing very fast here in Lincoln, Nebraska. So it’s nice to see the different vendors from different Latin American countries here at the Royal Grove.”
Organizers say the event started as a small celebration and grew as different vendors asked to be a part. Dancing, singing, and various Hispanic dishes were served. One vendor says celebrating every culture is important.
“Although I’m Cuban and not Mexican, we all have a lot in common language, culture, history, and food,” says Javy Prendes, owner of Javy Originals. “Whenever you can celebrate people it’s a good idea.”
The event goes until 11 p.m. and the after-party continues indoors.
