Nebraska man killed in two-semi crash on South Dakota highway

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — South Dakota authorities have identified a Nebraska man who died in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday.

State officials say Joseph Tramp III, 76, of Crofton was killed in a crash near Beresford, South Dakota.

A semitrailer was going east on South Dakota Highway 46 when the driver swerved to avoid a pickup turning into a private driveway.

The semi then crossed the lane and smashed head-on with a westbound semi, according to officials.

The driver of the eastbound semi, later identified as Tramp, was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the truck.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The westbound semi’s driver, 38-year-old Dustin Aspaas, suffered serious injuries but is expected to survive.

Officials say Aspaas was wearing a seat belt.

One of the trailers contained ethanol fuel, prompting a hazardous materials team to respond and close the highway for six hours.
