LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield is putting a priority on protecting the football during spring practice.

On Thursday, he guaranteed that the Huskers will protect the football and play football this upcoming season.

“Every position, especially quarterback, you got to show that you’re going to be responsible with the ball in your hands and make sure that we have it after every whistle blows,” Satterfield said.

Speaking of quarterbacks, Nebraska has plenty of them.  Those QBs also have experience, as several have started games in their collegiate careers.

Nebraska’s QB roster includes familiar names like Casey Thompson, Chubba Purdy and Logan Smothers, along with newcomers Jeff Sims, a transfer from Georgia Tech, and redshirt freshman Richard Torres.

“They’re competing every day,” Satterfield said.

And head coach Matt Rhule wants “every single human” to get in as many reps as possible.

So Nebraska’s eight quarterbacks will all get a chance to take snaps under center during spring ball.

“They’re getting a lot of reps and getting a lot of knowledge as mental reps,” Satterfield said.

The Huskers will not only be taking as many reps as humanly possible, but the players will also learn what is to be a Cornhusker.

Satterfield said when a player comes to Nebraska, they should expect to be respected while also being coached hard and developed into pro players.

“We have a special fan base; we have unbelievable facilities and an unbelievable opportunity in this unbelievable conference,” he said. “You can accomplish any dream that you have if you come play here.”
