Ervin has a hip injury, and Johnson is out with a shoulder injury.
“It’s heartbreaking on this end,” Rhule said.
In three games this season, Ervin has rushed for 196 yards and a touchdown, and Johnson ran for 65 yards in 12 attempts.
Anthony Grant, who racked up 915 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns last season, will now have an elevated role going forward.
“It’s his show now,” Rhule said.
Freshmen Kwinten Ives and Emmett Johnson will also see more snaps to replace the two injured running backs.
