Nebraska State Patrol makes arrest after pursuit with stolen car in Custer County
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) arrested one person after a pursuit on Thursday, Sept. 17.
NSP attempted a traffic stop on a Volkswagen sedan around 7 p.m between Merna and Broken Bow. The initial attempt was due to the driver driving on the shoulder.
The driver initially stopped during the traffic stop until the trooper approached the vehicle. The driver then accelerated and fled. He drove at approximately 100 miles per hour until reaching two miles north of Merna.
He pulled to the shoulder and was taken into custody. The dispatchers discovered the vehicle had been stolen out of North Platte.
The driver, Joseph Pittman, 37, of Cozad, was arrested for flight to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving, theft by receiving stolen property, driving under the influence with three prior convictions, driving under suspension and numerous traffic violations.
