LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Authorities say the body of a 16-year-old boy was recovered Sunday from a lake.

Nebraska Game and Parks said the boy from Madison, Nebraska, was trying to float across the lake on an inflatable flotation device on Lake Yankton.

Witnesses said the boy tried to stand, lost his balance and fell into the water.

Search and rescue efforts included deploying boats equipped with side-scan sonar and deployment of drones.

Lake Yankton is located on the border of Nebraska and South Dakota near Gavin’s Point Dam and is managed by the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers.
