LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Nebraska Tourism Commission received a national award last week for its efforts to promote the state with the slogan “Nebraska. Honestly, it’s not for everyone.”

Visit Nebraska was honored with a Mercury Award at the Educational Seminar of Tourism Organizations.

The award recognizes state tourism offices for excellence, creative achievements in destination marketing and continued development of promotional programs.

The state’s campaign won the award for best Integrated Marketing and Messaging Campaign with a marketing budget of less than $10 million.

Nebraska first won the award in 2019, when the campaign was introduced.

According to the commission, lodging tax revenue, visitor traffic and spending are continuing at a record pace this year.

“The month of June 2022 is only the second time ever that monthly lodging tax revenue surpassed $1 million,” said John Ricks, executive director of Nebraska Tourism. “Total lodging tax revenue set a new all-time record in fiscal year 2022 on a seasonal basis with $6.9 million in collections.”
