UPDATE: Residents given ‘all clear’ to return after fire prompts evacuations in Nebraska town

BENKELMAN, Neb. (KLKN) – Officials say residents are being allowed to return to their homes after a large wildfire is forced evacuations in Benkelman, Neb.

The Dundy County Sheriff’s Office said the evacuation recommendation was lifted around 8:30 a.m.

Several agencies responded to the fire on the northwest side of the town.

Residence near the western edge of Benkelman were asked to safely gather important belongings and to evacuate to a location west of the town early Friday morning.

Authorities opened several safe locations for people to gather who had fled their homes.
