Nebraska virus hospitalizations more than double in past month

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The number of Nebraskans hospitalized with COVID-19 has more than doubled in the past month.

State data shows 271 people were hospitalized with the virus on Oct. 5.

As of Wednesday (the most recent day for which data is available) the number was at 698.

The state is reporting more than 3,100 total hospitalizations since the pandemic began.

Just under 1,200 hospital beds (26%) remain available statewide, with 180 ICU beds (28%) still open.

More than 70% of state ventilators are still available.

Roughly 70% of people hospitalized are 55 or older, according to state data.
