Nebraska woman loses $15,000 in romance scheme that stretched on for years

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Grand Island Police Department says a woman lost about $15,000 to a romance scheme.

It happened over the past two years and wasn’t reported until Monday, police said.

Right now, there are no details on who took the money or where they might be located.

Even if they’re caught, authorities say there are many more scammers looking to take everything you have.

The FBI offers several tips to prevent this from happening to you.

It advises everyone to be careful about what’s posted online.

Scammers look for details on social media and dating sites to better target you.

Someone who promises to meet in person but keeps coming up with excuses not to should also raise a red flag.

Head to this link for a full list of warning signs and preventative steps you can take.
