Nebraska’s Fred Hoiberg and Amy Williams meet with media prior to fall exhibition games
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Nebraska basketball head coaches Fred Hoiberg and Amy Williams met with the media on Monday at the Hawks Championship Center prior to both the men’s and women’s exhibition games in October. Both coaches spoke regarding the progression of the men’s and women’s teams over the offseason, and how the Huskers have prepared for the upcoming seasons.
Coach Hoiberg provided updates on players such as Pryce Sandfort, who is coming back from surgery this past offseason, and talked about the team’s ambitions going into the 2026-27 season.
“This team – they have lofty goals, and they should,” Hoiberg said. “That’s where you want to be as a program, to have that. Our league has improved. I mean, you look at the rosters and our league and the length and our schedule with playing the non-conference teams that we are. It’s going to be a grind, and we better be on point and you can’t have any thoughts on what happened a year ago.”
Along with providing updates on player development, Williams also spoke on how the team is gelling together with freshman additions.
“The chemistry they have been feeling with the upperclassmen has been unique, because it happened a little faster than it normally does” Williams said. “And it’s a testament to our upperclassmen and they way they have really kind of embraced this group.”
Men’s basketball starts its exhibition game series on Oct. 9 against Saint Louis, while the women’s team will head to Chicago on Oct. 8 for Big Ten Media Day.
