New luxury boutique hotel in downtown Lincoln set to open next week
The Kindler Hotel on 11th and P street is the first and only luxury boutique–style hotel in Lincoln.
“You should get that kind of like great Gatsby modern–deco vibe,”
Two years in the making, it aims to be a combination of classic and modern designs, while maintaining a Nebraska feel.
“The cowhide rugs you’ll see, and you’ll see like the cowhide on the back of the bar stools,”
Ross Vincent, a world–renowned, L.A. based interior designer, designed every aspect of the hotel from furniture to the walls, making it one of his boldest projects yet.
“The boutique hotel is different that way because i can use materials that are unique and designs that are unique and i can customize furniture so, i really got to make it kind of my own,” says Vincent.
The hotel has 49 rooms, prices could range from around 160 to 200 dollars a night. The hotel is dedicated to the late Nebraska welder and industrial artist Ken Kindler. Kindler’s daughter Brooke and son–in–law Nick bought the space two years ago and hired Vincent to design it.
Before his death in 2014, Kindler created copper sculptures, some of which are on display in the hotel. Kindler also created paintings, and often times wind chimes. Vincent designed aspects of the hotel to replicate his work.
“You’ll see around the lobby different sculptures and art and things like that, the chandeliers is one thing i would say that kind of replicated his wind chimes so i designed these specifically with his thought in mind,” Vincent says.
The hotel also features ‘Boitano’s Lounge” whose food and drink menu was developed in part by Olympic Figure Skater and food network star Brian Boitano, a friend of the owners.
The hotel staff and owners say they are all excited to be able to memorialize Kindler and to bring the unique housing experience to Lincoln.
The hotel’s opening got pushed back a week, but is expected to officially open next Thursday, the 29th, just in time for Husker game day visitors.
