LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Nebraska Humane Society has rescued around 500 neglected exotic animals from a Papillion home.

NHS had received an anonymous tip saying the residence housed animals in bad conditions. Animal control investigated the house and found hundreds of exotic animals in unsanitary conditions.

NHS says they removed around 250 animals from the house on Tuesday and another 250 on Wednesday. Some animals found in the house were deceased.

The animals recovered included birds, chinchillas, snakes, guinea pigs, turtles and rabbits. NHS believes the resident had been neglecting the animals.

Vets will now evaluate the recovered animals and NHS plans to find them safe quarters, food and clean bedding. NHS says charges are pending for the resident of the home.
