Non-athletes will benefit from athletic department scholarships

This fall, even non–athletes will receive athletic department scholarships.

The program will annually fund $5 million in academic scholarships.

Dr. Amber Williams, Assistant Vice Chancellor of Enrollment Management, said every year, thousands of students enroll in colleges outside the state.  She said the goal is to keep students in Nebraska.

She said it’s made possible because of the loyal Husker fans.

"They’ve been committed to Nebraska athletics and to the university for almost 150 years," Williams said.  "And so what’s one of the best ways to celebrate that besides honoring that loyalty by giving back to our students for coming to the university?"

Dr. Williams said recipients are selected based on academic talent and their performances in high school.
