North Platte man arrested after stealing construction pickup

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KLKN) — Friday afternoon, A North Platte man was arrested following a vehicle pursuit. The effort included the Nebraska State Patrol (NSP), Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office (LSO), and North Platte Police Department (NPPD).

The incident began just before 1 o’clock when an NSP trooper noticed a Toyota SUV fail to stop at a stoplight at the intersection of Hwy 83 and Walker Road, south of I-80. The trooper attempted a traffic stop but initiated pursuit when the SUV fled. The pursuit continued south of I-80 until the SUV began driving northbound towards North Platte.

NSP performed a tactical vehicle intervention that halted the SUV. The driver proceeded to exit the vehicle and flee on foot through a building construction site. He then entered one of the construction pickups on-site and drove off. The pursuing trooper remained at the scene of the theft with the original vehicle.

A short time later, the driver was located at a residence on B Street by NPPD, where he was taken into custody. The driver was identified as 28-year-old Rosendo Duran of North Platte. He was arrested for flight to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving, possession of drug paraphernalia, motor vehicle theft, and violating a traffic control device. He was lodged in Lincoln County Jail. Duran also had two outstanding warrants from Hall County.
