UPDATE: Northeast sophomore arrested in murder of Edgar Union Jr.

UPDATE:

Natavian Morton, a sophomore at Lincoln Northeast High School, was arrested in connection to Edgar Union, Jr.’s death.

On Tuesday, Lincoln Police Chief Jeff Bliemeister shared more details on the arrest and ongoing case.

"The 16–year–old was located in Gulfport, Mississippi by the U.S. Marshals and the Gulf Coast Regional Task Force and taken into custody for an arrest warrant issued out of Lancaster County Court."

Morton faces charges of second degree murder, use of a firearm to commit a felony and unlawful discharge of a firearm.

Lincoln police said more arrests may follow.

They haven’t said what they believe motivated the killing back on March 26, but have mentioned that many people involved have gang affiliations.

"There was an ongoing disturbance between two different groups," Bliemeister said.  "Now, whether or not that lead to the shooting and the death of Edgar Union, Jr. is still something that we need to formalize and make sure that it is part of this particular case."

Investigators are still searching for the murder weapon.

Anyone with information regarding Union, Jr.’s death is urged to call police.
