NSP seizes 130 pounds of marijuana during traffic stop

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KLKN) – NSP Troopers seized 130 pounds of marijuana and a handgun during a traffic stop on I-80.

On Thursday around 4 p.m., a trooper saw a Ford Explorer fail to signal a turn before exiting onto I-80 at mile marker 360 near Waco. According to NSP, the trooper became suspicious of criminal activity during the traffic stop.

The trooper then searched the vehicle and found 130 pounds of marijuana inside duffel bags in the cargo area. During the search troopers also found a handgun inside the vehicle.

The troopers arrested the driver, 24-year-old Alexander Garcia of Summerfield, Fla. and the passenger, 29-year-old Ashley Gornto of Belleview, Fla. for possession of marijuana — more than one pound.

Other charges include possession with intent to deliver, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm during a drug violation and no drug tax stamp. Troopers lodged both in the York County Jail.
