NSP: Teen found driving stolen car, reported missing

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Tuesday, the Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) recovered a stolen vehicle and arrested multiple people following a traffic stop in Lincoln.

Around 4:20 p.m., a NSP trooper saw a driver discard a cigarette out the window of a Jeep Patriot while it was stopped at the intersection of 27th and O Streets. The trooper found this vehicle had been reported stolen and began following the Jeep north on 27th Street, until it turned west onto Vine Street. It was then that the trooper performed a traffic stop, finding the drive to be a 14-year-old female.

She was taken into custody on several charges, including possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, no operator’s license, and theft by receiving stolen property. She had also been reported missing and was lodged in the Lancaster County Youth Services Center.

There were also two passengers in the vehicle at the time. One was identified as 43-year-old Jay Schultz of Lincoln, who was arrested on multiple outstanding warrants. Schultz was lodged in the Lancaster County Jail. The other passenger was an 18-year-old male, who was released.
