Officer attacked by man during traffic stop in northwest Lincoln, police say

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – An officer was assaulted Friday night during a traffic stop in northwest Lincoln, police say.

Around 10:15 p.m., an officer pulled over a vehicle near Northwest 12th and Adams Streets.

During the traffic stop, a man – later identified as 51-year-old Toby Kirstine – approached the officer and started yelling at him.

The officer told Kirstine to leave, but he kept getting closer.

Eventually, the officer tackled Kirstine to the ground, according to police.  While on the ground, Kirstine pulled on the officer’s ear.

Kristine was arrested on suspicion of jail for assault on an officer, resisting arrest and obstructing police.
