Health officials say several new COVID-19 cases have been linked to two separate golf tournaments in eastern Nebraska.

Public Health Solutions says six cases in Thayer County and one case in Jefferson County were linked to a golf event held July 3 in Clay Center.

Two additional cases in Thayer County appear to be related to a separate golf tournament in York.

Health officials are continuing contact tracing efforts and say more than 100 contact investigation calls have been made related to the two events. PHS says more positive cases are expected in the coming days.

PHS Health Director Kim Showalter said wearing a face covering, practicing social distancing, avoiding large gatherings and hand hygiene is the “best defense” in slowing the spread of coronavirus.
