SOLVED: ‘Magnet Fishing’ behind mysterious red rope in Beatrice

BEATRICE, Neb. (KLKN) — UPDATE: Authorities have reeled in the mystery- the red rope was tied to a large magnet.

Why? It’s a part of a new trend called “Magnet Fishing.”

Picture someone using a metal detector on the beach, “Magnet Fishing” uses the same concept but adds a fishing line.

The fisher tosses the magnet into the murky depths, allowing it to drag along the bottom in hopes of catching something shiny.

The Gage County Sheriff’s Office (GSO) was met with a mystery at the Rockford Lake State Recreation Area this afternoon.

Campers and employees found a red rope onshore leading into the lake. According to GSO’s Facebook post, the rope appears to be attached to an unknown item about 100 feet from the shore.

Officials with the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission (NGPC) have since been contacted and are using a boat to scan the area with side sonar.

This is a developing story and we’ll keep you updated as new details are released.
