Omaha bicyclist killed after being hit by USPS mail truck

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A bicyclist is dead after getting hit by a mail truck Friday evening.

The Omaha Police Department says officers responded to a personal injury crash at Saddle Creek Road and California Street just before 7 p.m.

After an investigation, it was determined that a United States Postal Service semi-straight truck was pulling away from the post office when it hit a bicyclist, 46-year-old Gregory Whitedress.

Passersby and the driver performed CPR on Whitedress until he was taken to the hospital by medics. He died shortly after arriving at Nebraska Medicine.

The driver has been identified as 57-year-old Arnett Barnes of Omaha. It is unclear if Barnes will be held liable in the death.

Omaha police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash to contact their traffic unit at 402-444-5626.
