Omaha man killed in officer involved shooting
OMAHA, Neb. (KLKN) — On Saturday, July 11, officers of the Omaha Police Uniform Patrol Bureau responded to a welfare check after reports of a suicidal resident.
Around 6 p.m., officers attempted to make contact with the individual by knocking on the door. A man inside discharged a firearm towards three officers. The man exited and continued shooting, firing two more times towards the officers as they were in a position of cover. An Omaha Police officer returned fire and the suspect fell to the ground. The man was declared deceased after the scene was secured. A firearm was recovered from the scene.
The man was identified as David A. Asbury Jr., 44.
According to Omaha Police Department, the law requires the case be presented to a grand jury when a person dies while in the custody of, or while being apprehended by law enforcement.
Body Worn Camera footage and transcripts will be presented as evidence.
