Omaha zoo announces birth of third African elephant calf
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium announced the birth of another baby elephant on Thursday.
The male calf, which has not yet been named, was born around 2:20 a.m., according to a press release.
The calf and its mother, Lolly the 11-year-old African elephant, are doing well, the zoo says.
This is the third African elephant calf born at the zoo, joining siblings Eugenia and Sonny, who were born last January.
To allow Lolly some quiet time to bond with the calf, the zoo has temporarily closed the elephant family quarters.
A fourth elephant calf is expected in late summer, the zoo says.
