Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird, joined Megan Conway to discuss vaccine progress, the new police chief, and the proposed Lincoln city budget.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird, joined Megan Conway to discuss vaccine progress, the new police chief, and the proposed Lincoln city budget.

Recently Lancaster county has reached 70% for adults 18 and older who have received at least one dose of the vaccine, but the aim is still to hit 75%.

“We have ambitious goals, and we’re so proud of our community. So many people have stepped up to roll up their sleeves, and help protect themselves, and their families, their loved ones, and of course the entire community,” said Gaylor Baird.

Mayor Gaylor Baird spoke on choosing Teresa Ewins as the new Lincoln Police Chief.

“Really delighted what she brings in terms of her experience to this role. She’s commanded hundreds of folks on her watch. She’s done so much to develop her leadership through her career, and she has a lot of experience with 21st century policing,” said Gaylor Baird.

Mayor Gaylor Baird also spoke about the recent city budget that was proposed.

“Our communities safety and security is a top priority for our administration, and for our community. So of course that does get the vast majority of our public dollars are devoted to public safety,” said Gaylor Baird.
