One shot dead in western Nebraska after family argument

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A man in western Nebraska is dead after a family dispute lead to a shooting on Monday, said the Nebraska State Patrol.

Around 6:30 p.m., the Morrill County Sheriff’s Office asked the patrol to assist at the scene of a family argument.

The argument resulted in the death of Rodney Bennett, 57, after he was shot.

Before troopers arrived Rodney’s son, Joseph Bennett, 29, was arrested.  The patrol did not say if they suspected him of the shooting or if he was arrested for another reason.

After learning that Rodney died due to his injuries the patrol requested to be the lead agency on the case.

An autopsy is planned as the investigation continues.
