Opening of Lincoln swimming pools, playgrounds delayed indefinitely
City officials said Friday city swimming pools will not open this summer due to health concerns related to COVID-19.

City officials said Friday city swimming pools will not open on May 23 due to health concerns related to COVID-19.
Lincoln Parks and Rec Director Lynn Johnson said the decision to reopen will depend on guidance from the CDC and local health officials.
“If we are able to determine a safe way to operate pools, we know that we will not open every pool in Lincoln this summer,” Johnson said.
Swim and dive meets normally held at those facilities will not be held this year, Johnson said.
The city is also suspending rental of park shelters through the remainder 2020.
Playgrounds and all parks will also remain closed until CDC guidance changes, Johnson said.
Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird said the city is looking to local and national health officials for guidance on how and when the pools can reopen safely.
“It’s a top priority right now,” she said.
