LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – An owner of a stolen vehicle helped restrain the thief with assistance from officers and his stepson.

Lincoln police received a call to the area of Oregon Trail and North 1st Streets on a report of three males fighting in the street. Officers arrived and found the 46-year-old victim and his 22-year-old stepson holding down 27-year-old Scott Cross.

The victim told officers that his Chevy Silverado had been stolen, which prompted the two to go look for it. The stepson saw the vehicle driving erratically in a lot near the 3300 block of North 1st Street.

The two saw Cross leave the vehicle and followed him until they caught up and tackled him to the ground. The owner of the stolen truck assisted the officers in restraining Cross.

Officers medically evaluated Cross, who afterward began to fight them. LPD says Cross kept moving his body and refused to be placed into the cruiser. Eventually, the officers were able to get him into the backseat.

Officers did investigate the scene and found the stolen truck in the lot. LPD arrested Cross for theft by unlawful taking, resisting arrest and driving on a suspended license.
