Parks and Recreation hosting Fire Hydrant Parties throughout August following the closing of public pools
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Yesterday, Lincoln public pools officially closed after the summer season. They closed their doors for the last time this year around 6 p.m.
However, Lincoln Parks and Recreation Department (LPRD) has announced Fire Hydrant Parties that begin today, Aug. 10.
LPRD will be hosting a series of Fire Hydrant Parties throughout Lincoln this month.
“Fire Hydrant Parties are more than just a fun gathering – they bring essential cooling relief to our neighborhoods at the hottest point of the summer.” said Maggie Stuckey-Ross, Parks and Recreation Director. “Creating safe, refreshing spaces for families to beat the heat is an important part of how we support community wellbeing across Lincoln.”
Each event will have hydrant-connected water spray features according to LPRD. Lincoln Transportation and Utilities, Lincoln Fire and Rescue and Lincoln Police Department will have activities for the community.
The events run from 4:30-6 p.m. on Aug. 10 at Densmore Park, Aug. 14 at UPCO Park, Aug. 17 at Arnold Heights Park and Aug. 21 at Roberts Park.
A Lincoln City Libraries Bookmobile will be at UPCO Park and Roberts Park.
Each event is in the parks parking lot, so appropriate footwear is recommended along with children being accompanied by an adult.
