A mystery illness due to the coronavirus is affecting children and Channel 8 asked a local pediatrician her take on the new sickness.

“What we’re seeing in kids is that coronavirus isn’t causing a lot of morbidity if you will in our children and that’s wonderful news but now this new syndrome is more concerning but again rare,” says Dr. Sahra Niazi  for Complete Children’s Health.

Niazi says the new mystery virus has been named the multi-system-inflammatory syndrome and even though they have not seen a case in Lincoln. Parents are asking questions about the new illness and how to spot it.

“What we want you to be looking for is any persistent fever,” said Niazi. “Your child isn’t acting well, they’re more lethargic, they’re dehydrated,or if you have anybody in the family or any contact that might’ve had coronavirus in the past.”

Dr. Niazi says please call a pediatrician if you have any concerns for your child.
