LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Pepe’s Bistro held a Burrito Benefit on Sunday afternoon. The restaurant donated 50 percent of its sales to the Everett Free Grocery Program.

“Some of the proceeds went to the Everett Free Grocery Program, helping us continue our mutual aid efforts in getting things for our neighbors,” Everett Free Grocery Program member Destinee Pelc said.

The program distributes groceries, canned goods and personal items to struggling families within the Everett neighborhood.

Customers could enjoy a burrito, listen to music and donate to the cause on Sunday. Just over $400 was raised through sales. Organizers said the Everett neighborhood needs attention. Its infrastructure is failing, and there are several families struggling.

“The resources and the powers that be within the community, were failing to meet the needs of the people within the Everett community,” Everett Free Grocery Program member Cody Martin said.

The program is still accepting donations. If you’re interested in donating you can visit the group’s Facebook page for more information.
