Pillen joins federal officials to support Harvest of Hallways, an initiative for student meals
WASHINGTON, D.C. (KLKN) — Gov. Jim Pillen declared his support for the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Harvest of Hallways program. During a news conference today, Pillen emphasizes his encouragement of providing healthier meal options to Nebraska students.
The Harvest of Hallways program was introduced by U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke L. Rollins and Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. The goals and initiatives of the program were discussed.
The program includes up to $70 million in investments to school cafeteria infrastructure and up to $25 million in additional Farm to School Grants, according to USDA.
“This is one thing I know—we all agree—our kids are our future and we’re never, ever going to give up one kid anywhere, anytime, anyplace,” said Gov. Pillen. “This isn’t just a state problem. This isn’t a federal government problem. It’s all our responsibilities as Americans to look after these young people so they can grow up and be extraordinary leaders in the United States of America.”
Pillen joined Kennedy and Rollins to promote the program, saying this program is an opportunity to make a difference that will last for generations.
