Pillen signs JD Vance’s Pledge to Protect Americans from Fraud

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — On Oct. 15, Gov. Jim Pillen signed onto Vice President JD Vance’s Pledge to Protect Americans from Fraud.

This comes after multiple governor’s also followed in Vance’s footsteps.

“Today, I am joining the Vice President’s pledge to protect Americans from fraud and safeguard taxpayer dollars,” Pillen said. “Together, we will continue working to ensure taxpayer dollars do not end up in the hands of fraudsters but instead go to the American people who need them most.”

Nebraska Attorney General Mike Hilgers, Nebraska Attorney Lesley A. Woods and Representative Adrian Smith all joined in signing the pledge as well.

Lynne Walz’s, former Nebraska state senator and Democratic candidate for governor, campaign said Pillen should start with his own office.

“If Jim Pillen wants to protect taxpayers from fraud, he can start with his own office,” Sophie Mestas, spokesperson for Lynne Walz for Governor, said. “He handed a $2.5 million no-bid contract to a personal travel companion – a deal the Republican state auditor said ‘smacks of favoritism’ and police are now investigating. Then he pushed a tax plan that would have cut his own taxes by nearly $1 million while jacking up the sales tax on everyone else. Lynne Walz is a farm kid and former teacher who has spent her career working across the aisle to cut waste and balance budgets. As Governor, she’ll account for every tax dollar and make sure government answers to Nebraskans.”
