BEATRICE, NEB. (AP) — A Beatrice man has been jailed after the shooting death of another man outside the suspect’s home.

Beatrice Police Chief Bruce Lang said Alex Rader, of Beatrice, died at a hospital shortly after being shot late Wednesday, KWBE reported.

The suspect, Brandon Long, 25, told police he heard a disturbance outside his home. He went outside, saw a man leaning against the house, and shot him, Lang said.

Lang said the two men knew each other and the shooting did not appear to be related to an attempted burglary or a self-defense situation but police are not sure why Rader was at the home.

Long’s girlfriend and a 2-year-old were inside the home at the time.

Long was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder, use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony and discharging a firearm within city limits.
