Police look for teens who tried to steal car from U-Stop

Two teen girls are on the run after police said they tried to steal a car from a woman while she was filling her gas tank at U-Stop near 21st and Capitol Parkway.

The victim said she was about to close her gas cap and get back in her car around 12:30 Tuesday night when she saw a female, about 16-years-old, sitting inside her car, said Lincoln Police Captain Jeri Roeder.

Police said the victim threw the keys to the side so the teen couldn’t drive off. Roeder said that’s when the teen starting fighting with the victim, punching her in the head several times.

Bystanders helped separate the suspect from the victim and tried to hold her until police got there. However, she was able to get away and ran off with another teen, Roeder said.

Roeder said investigators are now reviewing surveillance video from the gas station to see if they can identify the teens.
