POLL: Ricketts calls critical race theory ‘an attack on our country’s core values’

critical race theory

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Governor Pete Ricketts has taken to Twitter, asking Nebraskans to support the ban of critical race theory (CRT).

CRT is an academic movement based on the idea that race is a social construct, according to the Encyclopedia Britannica. Scholars use it to examine how laws intersect with racial issues and challenge the mainstream approach to racial justice.

In his tweets, Gov. Ricketts claims CRT has “Marxist roots” and “is an attack on our country’s core values.”

State officials across the nation are in the midst of a debate over CRT.

Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds even signed a bill in early June banning the teaching of CRT in public schools.

The American Civil Liberties Union says the bill is blatantly suppressing speech about race, while Gov. Reynolds argues CRT is about”discriminatory indoctrination.”
