Pools prepare for triple digit heat
With hot summer days already upon us, kids are eager to make a splash and get in the pool to cool off, in numbers that haven't been seen in a while.
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) —With hot summer days already upon us, kids are eager to make a splash and get in the pool to cool off, in numbers that haven’t been seen in a while.
“I’ve been here for quite a while and with, you know, with us not being open last year, I really feel like people want to take advantage of the pools and staying cool when it does get this hot,” Ryan Rieker, with Eastridge Pools, said.
It’s the middle of June and it’s safe to say, it’s been a hot month already. With temperatures expected to reach triple digits this week, Eastridge pool is gearing up.
“I sort of have a rotation for them so that they can have a little shade time and also be out watching the kids. Also encourage a lot of water, before shifts and after shifts,” Rieker said.
They’ve got plenty of lifeguards on duty but have to make sure they look after each other as well. Especially since they’re expecting this to be a long warm summer.
“Just kind of sort of learn to pace ourselves and then take one day at a time,” he said.
They are excited to be back in business after being closed last year, the kids are pretty happy about it too. Rieker said he’s been in the business for close to 30 years and hasn’t seen the pool this crowded in a while. With Eastridge staying open a little bit later than city pools, everyone is taking advantage.
