Portion of Jamaica Trail set to close during prescribed burn on Thursday

Prescribed Burn

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Lincoln Parks and Recreation department announced the closure of a popular trail during a prescribed burn on Thursday.

From noon to 3 p.m., a portion of the Jamaica Trail will close between the 14th Street crossing and the Rock Island Trail connector bridge.

The burn will cover about 12 acres southwest of 14th Street and Yankee Hill Road.

Community members are asked to avoid the area during the project.

Aaron Druery, the Parks and Recreation greenways district supervisor, said that prescribed and controlled burns are tools for managing large areas of native plants and grasses, reducing wildfire risk, and enhancing wildlife habitat.
