LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – UPDATE: LES has restored power to this area.

The outage was caused by a downed power line, not a rolling blackout.

A power outage is currently impacting part of southwest Lincoln, including the Channel 8 studio.

According to the LES outage map, 1,238 customers are currently without power.

An LES spokeswoman said the outage was not a planned rolling blackout, and that crews are working to restore power to the area.

The spokeswoman said there is no estimate for when power will be restored.

LES was notified by the Southwest Power Pool on Monday to begin doing rolling blackouts due to unprecedented energy demand during the record low temperatures.

LES performed two rolling blackouts Monday afternoon before power returned to a sustainable level. However, officials warn residents to be prepared for more planned outages at least until Wednesday.

Rotating outages, which are controlled, temporary interruptions of electricity that reduce demand on the system.

Rotating outages are typically limited to 30 to 60 minutes — but may last longer — before being rotated to another location.

If you are without power for more than one hour, it may be an outage outside of this situation. You can report an outage by calling 1-888-365-2412.

Channel 8 Eyewitness News will be providing news updates on Facebook Live until the power is restored.
