Prescribed burn at Pioneers Park set for Tuesday

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Lincoln Parks and Recreation Department said it will conduct a prescribed burn at Pioneers Park on Tuesday.
From noon to 4 p.m., Parks and Rec staff will burn nearly 20 acres near the Prairie Building at the Pioneers Park Nature Building.
Trails north of the nature center and the parking loop south of the Cunningham Schoolhouse will be closed during the burn.
Pioneers Park Road and access to the Prairie Building will remain open.
Officials said community members should avoid the area during the project.
Aaron Druery, Parks and Recreation Greenways District Supervisor, said that prescribed burns are tools for managing large areas of native plants and grasses, reducing wildfire risk and enhancing wildlife habitat.
Parks staff monitor weather and air quality conditions to ensure safe burns.
