Pursuit with an felon leads to three crashes in Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Right before 8 a.m. on Sept. 22, a pursuit with a felon that started in Omaha led to Lincoln.

The Omaha Metro Fugitive Task Force was actively looking for Travon Green, 30, for multiple felony warrants.

Officers with the task force saw him leave a residence and get into a red Nissan Sentra. Officers then tried to box him in, but Green crashed into one of their vehicles and took off.

According to Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office, their Criminal Interdiction Unit, located on Interstate 80 (I-80), was notified to watch for the Nissan.

Officers located the vehicle near mile marker 409 going eastbound. A pursuit started with speeds reaching 90 to 100 mph.

Green left I-80 at Exit 405, reaching Highway 77. There, the Nissan crashed into a Jeep Cherokee and semi.

According to Chief Deputy Ben Houchin, no one was injured.

Green was taken into custody. He had a 31-year-old passenger, who was also arrested.

Green was arrested and lodged for flight to avoid arrest, felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a stolen firearm and all of his existing warrants.

His passenger was arrested and lodged for possession of a stolen firearm.

“This is why Lincoln-Lancaster County’s crime rate is so low,” Houchin said. “Because we are taking individuals like him off the street. He has been in the pin twice already for the same things. This is his third time.”

Houchin has expressed his dislike for pursuits in the past, with this pursuit being no different.

“This was dangerous and it’s maddening,” Houchin said.
