Record shattering cold this morning 2/16/2021

Several low temperature records across southeast Nebraska were broken this morning. Lincoln broke the previous record low of –18 set back in 1978, as we dropped down to –25 this morning. Temperatures will continue to slowly increase the next few hours and highs today will near the 0 degree mark. Some of the area could warm above 0 degrees by the afternoon, but most of us will be stuck below 0 again. We will start off the day with sunshine, but clouds will gradually increase throughout the day, leading to mostly cloudy skies for overnight tonight. This will help keep temperatures a bit warmer with overnight lows only 4 degrees below 0. A few snow flurries are also possible overnight through tomorrow. We will warm back to the teens for the next several days and eventually to the 20s as this cold spell finally breaks, with mostly dry weather.
