Rollover crash near Norfolk with 13-year-old driver sends two teens to the hospital

NORFOLK, Neb. (KLKN) — Yesterday, July 26, the Stanton County Sheriffs office investigated a vehicle rollover accident near Norfolk. Two teens were transported to the hospital.

The driver, a 13-year-old, did not have a seatbelt on along with the 17-year-old in the back seat.

Another 13-year-old, the owner of the vehicle, was wearing a seatbelt and declined medical attention.

The driver lost control and entered a ditch, causing the car to roll once.

The vehicle had its roof cut off recently which made it unclear if anyone was ejected.

The sheriff’s office says the teens are very fortunate to be alive.

“Today I observed a vehicle that was unroad worthy and, for a lack of a better description, a death trap, and we are just thankful the three occupants were not more seriously injured or killed,” Sheriff Mike Unger said. “Inexperience and speed are often factors in rollovers that you don’t recover from.”
