Salvation Army Thanksgiving Basket Giveaway

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Salvation Army of Lincoln had a big day at their location off of 27th street.  They were giving out Thanksgiving baskets to people who signed up to receive them.

They had 400 baskets to give out and by one o’clock they already gave out half of them!

In each basket folks get the traditional Thanksgiving fixings and the choice of either ham, chicken, or turkey.

If you weren’t able to stop by today to pick up your basket the Salvation Army will be there tomorrow as well.  And, if you were someone who didn’t sign up, the Salvation Army says to come down Wednesday to pick up food.

For Maj. Sue Anderson, after growing up in a family that needed assistance, this is something she’s always wanted to do for the community.

She told Channel 8, “I’ve always wanted to give back and this is a great opportunity to be hope and encouragement to others.  We know that it’s a time when people are struggling.  Food prices have gone sky high along with everything else, so people are really in need right now.”

It’s not just people who are in need too, the Salvation Army needs donations to be able to afford to get food for people that need it.  That’s why the “Red Kettle” drive is so important for them.  They encourage you to give what ever you can when you see their volunteers ringing those bells so they can continue to help those in need in the community.
