Scammer tried stealing money from woman by posing as attorney, Lincoln Police say

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A scammer impersonated an attorney to try and steal money from an 89-year-old woman, Lincoln Police say.

The woman told police Monday that she had gotten a call from someone who identified himself as an attorney.

He told the victim that her grandson had been involved in a car crash and needed bond money to get out of jail, police say.

The woman was then told to take out $6,800 in cash and send it to an address in Philadelphia.

She followed the instructions given to her and dropped off an envelope full of money at the post office.

Shortly after, the woman got a phone call from her grandson and realized the call was a scam, according to police.

She quickly returned to the post office and got her envelope back, police say.

Lincoln Police remind everyone to be cautious if ever asked to send cash through the mail.
