Scammers take $7,300 from 82-year-old Lincoln man

Lincoln Police say an 82-year-old Lincoln man is out thousands after falling victim to a scam.

The man’s daughter told police someone contacted her father and told him he’d won the Publisher’s Clearing House Sweepstakes, but that he needed to send them money to cover taxes on his winnings.

The victim sent packages, one with $4,000, another with $3,300, and a third with $3,000, to an out-of-state address. The victim’s family was able to recover one of the packages, but not before the man lost $7,300.

Police are still investigating the case.
