Severe Weather Potential:

Scattered to isolated severe storms are possible across the state on Saturday evening into Sunday morning. A Slight Risk (Level 2 out of 5) of severe weather is in place for western Nebraska, with a Marginal Risk (Level 1 out of 5) of severe weather extending into southeast Nebraska. Quarter-sized hail or larger alongside wind gusts between 65 and 75 miles per hour will be possible in the strongest storms (particularly in the yellow-shaded area).

StormCast shows two rounds of storms on Saturday night into Sunday morning. The first moves through western Nebraska this evening, fizzling out in central Nebraska. An additional round of storms moves up from Kansas into southeast Nebraska by early Sunday.

Scattered to isolated severe storms will be possible again on Sunday, mainly for the Panhandle. Large hail and damaging winds will be the main concerns in the strongest storms.

Turning our attention to Monday evening, strong to severe storms will move south through southern South Dakota into central Nebraska. These storms could be capable of producing large hail and damaging winds.

The Storm Prediction Center is already monitoring the potential of severe weather in central and eastern Nebraska on Tuesday as well.

Above is a look at a long-term run of StormCast, bringing storms across central Nebraska late Monday and another round into eastern Nebraska early Tuesday.

Forecast:

Southeast Nebraska will start Sunday morning in the 60s and 70s under mostly cloudy skies.

We may see a few showers and thunderstorms overnight in Lincoln. Otherwise, mostly cloudy skies with low temperatures falling to the lower 70s.

Sunday afternoon will feature slightly cooler temperatures as highs reach the upper 70s and lower 80s statewide.

The Capital City will see gradually clearing skies throughout the day on Sunday, with afternoon temperatures in the lower 80s and a northerly breeze.

While we may have to wait a few days before the humidity comes down, temperatures will be below average going forward. Several chances for showers and thunderstorms are possible throughout the work week. Multiple systems will pass through the jet stream, keeping storm chances in the forecast through the end of the week.
