Facing child, ‘revenge’ porn charges, Husker Maurice Washington self-surrenders in California

Nebraska football coach Scott Frost said Monday that running back Maurice Washington has flown to California to be “processed” on criminal charges.

Washington faces felony child porn and misdemeanor revenge porn charges stemming from an incident in California where he allegedly sent his ex-girlfriend video of her being sexually assaulted.

A spokesman for the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Department told Channel 8 Eyewitness News that Washington self-surrendered Monday morning around 7 a.m.

Bail was set for Washington at $35,000.

He is due in court April 10, the spokesman said.

Frost said Washington flew to California on Sunday, and that he anticipates him returning to Lincoln on Monday and to practice on Tuesday.

He said last week that the running back would be a limited participant in Husker spring practices as his case developed.

Washington’s attorney, John Ball, released a statement on Monday.

“Mr. Washington has been fully cooperative with authorities, and had the arrest warrant removed this morning in California,” Ball said in the statement. “As we move through this process, Mr. Washington will continue to focus on all of his responsibilities and commitments.  Due process in our legal system often takes time and patience, and we must respect that process.”
