‘Sea of Red Sellout’ pulls in more than $600K

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Big Ten Conference limited the number of fans allowed into Memorial Stadium, but Big Red still found a way to keep fans involved.

The Sea of Red Sellout was launched, offering Huskers the opportunity to purchase a seat in the stadium, for their cardboard cutout to sit comfortably. According to the University of Nebraska- Lincoln (UNL), all proceeds will go to the athletics department to help support student-athletes.

Well the results from this season-long campaign are in.

UNL reports more than 6,000 cutouts were sold, generating over $600,000 in revenue.

Even more amazing was the nationwide representation, with ‘fans’ from 47 states filling the stadium seats.
